D minor - Research on Harmony - Variation 1 — Acrylic on Linen Canvas by Arnaud Quercy (AQC0700)
Description
This work translates Bill Evans's piano introduction to Miles Davis's "So What" into visual form. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, it converts the modal harmonies of D minor into color relationships. The painting captures the specific tonal qualities of Evans's approach to the iconic tune from 1959.
Orange tones dominate the composition, with darkgoldenrod establishing the primary presence across the surface. Darksalmon and goldenrod create substantial areas of warmth, while burnt sienna provides deeper accents. Yellow-orange hues including peru and burlywood add variation throughout. A small amount of yellow-green appears as contrast, with pale yellow providing subtle highlights. The acrylic medium on linen canvas creates smooth color transitions with moderate texture variation.
The work measures eighty by eighty centimeters in a square format. It carries certificate of authenticity number 20240718-0196 and bears the artist's signature in the bottom right corner. The piece translates specific harmonic content from the Bill Evans piano introduction, focusing on the modal characteristics that define the D minor tonality of this jazz standard.
