Description

first United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) 1951-1956 Was born 19 March 1901 in Bussum, the Netherlands, and passed away 8 July 1956 in Geneva, Switzerland. He was the son of Gijsbert Willem Goedhart, bookseller and vicar, and Francina Dingena Helena van Heuven. On 28 October 1924 he married Francis Becht, lady help and domestic help. They divorced on 10 October 1931. On 19 April 1932 he married Erna Hauan. They had two daughters. Entry in IO BIO, Biographical Dictionary of Secretaries-General of International Organizations.
